Tokyo Mandarin is a straightforward Japanese restaurant tucked along Delsea Drive in Glassboro, serving up a mix of sushi and Asian-inspired dishes with an emphasis that leans toward everyday dining rather than upscale or trendy settings. It seems to attract a local crowd, including Rowan University visitors and residents looking for familiar flavors and generous portions without fuss.

Inside, the atmosphere tends to be quiet and unpretentious, even when the dining room isn’t bustling. This can feel a bit unexpected at first, given the size and variety on the menu, but it also means you’re likely to get attentive service and meals prepared fresh to order. Among the menu, sushi rolls are a highlight, especially those with tempura shrimp and spicy tuna components, such as the Kamikaze Maki and the Spicy Salmon Tempura Roll, which provide a nice balance of texture and spice.

Aside from sushi, the kitchen offers comforting staples like General Tso’s chicken, chicken with broccoli, and Chinese-style bento boxes that come packed with a variety of sides, making it a solid choice for lunch or casual dinner. The inclusion of lighter soups like wonton and sweet and sour, both enjoyed by locals, helps round out the meal, fitting well for those who want a simple but satisfying bite.

For visitors or locals, Tokyo Mandarin works well as a convenient stop for takeout or dine-in, particularly midday or early evening. The staff’s efficiency with online orders and takeout pickups appeals to those balancing school or work schedules nearby, while the modest décor and calm vibe make it a no-pressure spot to enjoy a familiar Japanese and Asian meal.

Overall, if you’re in the Glassboro area and looking for unassuming Asian fare where sushi stands alongside well-executed Chinese and Thai-influenced dishes, this spot is a practical choice — especially when you want something fresh and reliably tasty without the crowds or hype common in busier restaurant scenes.

Ordered takeout from Tokyo Mandarin in Glassboro and had a really good experience. I ordered through their online app and was able to get a discount, which was a nice bonus. The pickup time they quoted was accurate, and the food was ready and waiting when I got there. We started with the wonton soup, which was excellent, and the General Tso’s chicken was very good — crispy, flavorful, and not overly sauced. The egg rolls were fresh and crunchy, and the crab rangoon was on point as well. The only small downside was not being able to substitute vegetable lo mein for the pork fried rice in the combo, but that didn’t take away from the overall experience. Solid food, easy ordering, and reliable pickup. Definitely a place I’d order from again.

Very delicious! The Pepper Steak was the best we have ever had! It had so much flavor and the beef was nice and tender. The lunch Vegetable Delight was very good and has a white sauce. I really liked the sweet and sour soup and it was filled with lots of veggies and things. Not too spicy. My sister got a lunch Bento box spicy tuna and she loved it. So much food. I highly recommend!

We came here because we were visiting Rowan University and it’s close to the school. We were wanting Asian food, so we selected this place. The reviews looked good, and the menu had a lot of offerings that could satisfy anyone. When we came, the place was empty, which did not seem like a good sign, but we were proven wrong. They brought out some fried noodles with sauce, which was a nice touch. I got the chicken with broccoli lunch special which comes with a small soup. The value of the lunch special was fantastic, also. Under $10 for an amazing meal. I chose the wonton soup for my soup, and it was amazing! The wontons had a little less meat than I was hoping for, but the flavor was still great. The chicken with broccoli meal was delicious, with a thick brown sauce. The pork fried rice that came with it was very flavorful. The service was amazing, and the food was hot and fresh tasting. We really enjoyed it here, and would definitely come again.

8/6/23 haven’t been here in a while and I am happy to say that their food is just as good as it was! Prices went up a bit but that’s ok. Portion size were good too. Crab Rangon were best had! Gen Tso Chicken - excellent! Even practiced my Mandarin! Lol Happy to see some business have not cut back and kept their service and food at top level! 4 years ago. Always consistent good food! Tastes fresh! Very nice place for take out. Have not dined in yet

UPDATE: We haven't dined in for a while. Hopefully the rain was the reason for not many diners. Food and service is just as good as ever. Food is always fresh and cold\hot depending on if you ordered sushi or a cooked dish. A little light on wait staff during the pandemic, but the waiter was still friendly.

Amazing food! You can taste all the subtle flavors, each one blends or contrast the other. Their sushi is and has been top notch for the past 24 years that I have been eating at this location. Nice quiet atmosphere, very nice staff, prices are fair! We took our time to place the order but our appetizers came were served within a few moments, very good service for the entire meal. Every item tasted so fresh, noticeable different than other restaurants we have eaten. Highly recommend this restaurant if you like the choices of a full Japanese sushi menu and Chinese entrees and soups. A lot of people order for pickup and that’s how I started eating their food back in early 2020. I recently took my wife there to celebrate our anniversary and we had a great experience!

Tokyo Mandarin in Glassboro is hands down the best Chinese and Japanese in the tri-state area. Shoutout to my guy rolling the sushi rolls — they’re the fattest east of the Mississippi. Highly recommended.
